Medically tailored meals have been available for more than 35 years. They started as a community response to the AIDS crisis as volunteers tried to develop strategies to help prevent malnutrition, manage side effects and bring dignity to the lives of people with AIDS when there were no other proven treatments. Once the medical community developed treatments for this population, medically tailored meal programs evolved to help meet the nutritional needs of those living with other chronic health conditions.
